LG announced quantum dot TV; quantum dot market forecast

December 16, 2014

Today LG announced it’ll showcase its quantum dot TV at the upcoming CES 2015. We also expect Samsung to show quantum dot TV.

Quantum dot could improve Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) dramatically in terms of color gamut, color accuracy and reducing power consumption. This is one of the biggest breakthrough technologies for LCD in recent several years. Now quantum dot LCD is challenging AMOLED.

Touch Display Research surveyed many quantum dot suppliers and found that the quantum dot display component market surpassed $70 million in 2013.   We forecast that the quantum dot display and lighting component market will reach $9.6 billion by 2023.

Touchless bio sensor technologies and market

December 5, 2014

When I was shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond recently, I saw this S+ sleep sensor. It’s made by ResMed based in San Diego. ResMed claims it is the world’s first non-contact sleep systems that helps you analyze and improve your sleep.

There are wrist-wear bands in the market that can track your sleep pattern, but a touchless (or called non-contact) bio sensor is more comfortable and convenient.

Touchless bio sensors were widely used for human safety, hygiene/cleanness, security, health, convenience, authentication and entertainment. From gesture control to voice command, from eye tracking to human motion sensor, Touch Display Research analyzed over 200 leading manufacturers, system integrators, and brand companies working in this field.

In the “Touchless Human-machine-interaction” report, we forecast the touchless bio sensor market will reach $42.6 Billion by 2020.

We accurately forecasted Taiwan and China AMOLED mass production time

December 2, 2014

About 2 years ago, in the “Touch and Emerging Display report”, Feb 2013 issue, page 9, we forecasted “Taiwan will start mass produce AMOLED in 2013. But China AMOLED won’t be in mass production until 2014.” We also had a press release about this forecast on Feb 19th, 2013.

Now with EverDisplay became the first Chinese manufacturer to mass produce AMOLED, our forecast became true, after 22 months.

Touch Display Research has a good reputation of accurate forecast. We accurately forecasted Apple AMOLED adoption time. Over a year ago, in the “Touch and Emerging Display report”, June 2013 issue, page 45, we forecasted “Apple will adopt AMOLED within 18 months”. Now with the Apple Watch announced, our forecast becomes reality in 18 months.

Sorry about tooting our own horn, but these are the facts. We know the display industry well and we are good at forecast.
