“While we wait for Apple’s smart watch to be released, over thirty smart watches and fitness wrist bands are already on the market. Six factors are required for any device to stand out from the crowd: special display, long battery life, heart rate monitor, GPS, human-machine interaction, and apps,” said Dr. Jennifer Colegrove, principal analyst of Touch Display Research Inc., who has authored reports on the touch panel and emerging display industry since 2006.
Over thirty smart watches and fitness wrist bands are compared side-by-side in one chart.
The OLED display finds its niche in wearable devices––not only smart watches, but also near-eye devices.
Thalmic Labs, a start-up company based in Canada, announced the development of a thinner arm band for gesture control named “Myo,” shipping this month. Comparison of five touchless control technologies is provided in this monthly report.
The Amazon Fire Phone will be shipping this month. Fire Phone is showing 3D without 3D displays. It’s using a “normal” 2D display, 4.7”, and 1280×720 pixel format. Four camera sensors respond to how the user tilts the phone and his or her head. Then real-time computer vision algorithms in the phone create the resulting image.
