Micro and mini LED at OPTO Taiwan and Taitronics 2019 conference review

October 31, 2019, by Jennifer Colegrove Ph.D. Principal Analyst, Touch Display Research Inc.

I just returned from the OPTO Taiwan 2019 conference, which is co-located with the Taitronics Taipei International Electronics Show in Taipei from Oct 16-18, 2019. I appreciate the support of Photonic Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) in sponsoring my travel. It’s my honor to meet many of you in person.

The OPTO Taiwan Cross Straight Industry Technology Cooperation Forum on Micro & Mini LED was held on October 17th, 2019 at the Nangang Exhibition Center. There were over 100 attendees at this forum.

On behalf of Touch Display Research, I gave a presentation titled, “Micro and Mini LED–Technology, Supply Chain and Market Forecast”. Micro LED and mini LED display could disrupt the whole display industry due to their benefits of high brightness, wide color gamut, low power consumption, and fast response time. Our survey found that the micro and mini LED displays are gaining momentum. The number of enterprises working on micro and mini LED has increased to over 170 in 2019 from 120 last year.

“We like your monthly report. It’s like you are traveling for us to over 10 international conferences each year, and writing travel reports too. Your monthly reports keep us updated with all the new trends.”– A client of the Touch and Emerging Display monthly report.

“I recommended your Smart Windows Report to my company, and then my company bought it. The report is very useful– it opened a whole new world for us.” —a client of the Smart Window’s Report.

“We bought your Touch Panel for Vertical Market report two years ago, and based on the report, we formed a new division to target those markets, and now that division is doing very well.”—a client of the Touch Panel for Vertical Market report.

ARM TechCon 2019 conference day-one review

October 8, 2019, by Jennifer Colegrove Ph.D. Principal Analyst, Touch Display Research Inc.

I just returned from the ARM TechCon 2019 conference in San Jose Convention Center. Today is the first day of the 3-day conference. It was my honor to meet you in person.

ARM was founded in 1990 and was acquired by Softbank in 2016. ARM is a unique semiconductor company because it doesn’t make any chips, but rather license its technologies to other semiconductor companies and OEMs, such as Apple, Samsung, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Huawei, Microsoft, Facebook, Pixelworks, etc. ARM’s technology is famous for its low power consumption and small footprint, thus they are widely adopted in smart phones, tablet PCs, smart watches, IoT devices, etc.

This is the 15th anniversary of this ARM conference, over 3000 attendees are expected this year. ARM’s CEO Mr. Simon Segars gave a keynote presentation titled “The New Era of Compute”. He discussed the ARM ecosystem and indicated over 150 billion chips have used ARM’s technologies in them. And that is just the beginning, we can expect to see another 50 billion in the next 2 years.

After CEO’s keynote, Ms. Dipti Vachani, ARM’s senior VP of automotive and IoT line of business gave a keynote titled “Autonomous Vehicle Revolution: the missing links”. More detail about the conference review and market forecast can be found in the Touch and Emerging Display monthly report.
