We accurately forecasted Taiwan and China AMOLED mass production time

December 2, 2014

About 2 years ago, in the “Touch and Emerging Display report”, Feb 2013 issue, page 9, we forecasted “Taiwan will start mass produce AMOLED in 2013. But China AMOLED won’t be in mass production until 2014.” We also had a press release about this forecast on Feb 19th, 2013.

Now with EverDisplay became the first Chinese manufacturer to mass produce AMOLED, our forecast became true, after 22 months.

Touch Display Research has a good reputation of accurate forecast. We accurately forecasted Apple AMOLED adoption time. Over a year ago, in the “Touch and Emerging Display report”, June 2013 issue, page 45, we forecasted “Apple will adopt AMOLED within 18 months”. Now with the Apple Watch announced, our forecast becomes reality in 18 months.

Sorry about tooting our own horn, but these are the facts. We know the display industry well and we are good at forecast.

Taiwan is one of the most active regions in touch screen manufacturing. In 2006-2007, Apple’s iPhone brought revolutionary changes to the touch screen industry. Touch panel companies at the forefront such as TPK, Wintek, Youngfast, J-Touch rode the wave and grew rapidly.

Recently, display and touch screen integration have become necessary to reduce cost, weight, and thickness. This has led display manufacturers such as AUO, Innolux (used to be named ChiMei Innolux), and CPT to grasp an opportunity and supply the new devices.

In 2013 a wave of new opportunities and challenges are approaching. Touch Display Research analyzed the growth opportunities in:

  1. Large smart phone (>5”)
  2. Touch technology for notebook and all-in-one PCs
  3. ITO-replacement materials
  4. Multi-touch and simultaneous pen writing
  5. Touchless control

I am honored to be delivering a special forum at the conference and eager to meet Taiwan’s touch screen and display manufacturers.
