Quantum Material Corporation Joint Venture in China

January 28, 2016

This week, quantum dot manufacturer Quantum Materials Corp announced that the company has entered into a joint venture in China with Guanghui Technology Group (“GTG”).  GTG will invest $20 Million US for building out Quantum Materials QDX™ quantum dot production facilities and quantum dots application development in China.

Quantum dot technology could improve Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) dramatically in terms of color gamut, color accuracy and reducing power consumption. The number of companies working on quantum dot has increased to over 80 in 2016 from just 60 companies in 2015.

In the newly published “Quantum Dot Display and Lighting Technologies and Market Forecast 2016 Report,” Touch Display Research surveyed many quantum dot suppliers, display manufacturers and OEMs, and analyzed and forecasted the quantum dot display component market with detail of material type and form factor. This report profiles over 80 companies working on quantum dot materials and quantum dot components.

Touch Display Research Inc. forecasts quantum dot components will have a rapid penetration into displays and lighting from 2016 to 2026, and will reach US $10.8 Billion by 2026.

  • Cadmium-free quantum dot successfully entered the market in 2015.
  • Samsung promoted quantum dot displays for its SUHD TV at CES 2016. (Quantum dot exhibitions at CES 2016 are included in this report).
  • Colegrove, author of this report, has conducted many first-hand interviews of quantum dot material and component suppliers, display manufactures, and OEMs in recent 7 years. She is the first analyst to publish a comprehensive quantum dot market report since 2013.
  • Over 80 companies are profiled and supply chain analysis with many companies is provided.
  • This report provides market analysis and forecast of quantum dot for display and lighting, with analysis of quantum dots for other applications: solar, battery, laser, bio-science, and medical labeling.
  • This report provides not only the outlook for quantum dot components in display and lighting, but also analysis and comparison between conventional LCD, LCD with quantum dot, LCD with Cd-free QD, and AMOLED.
  • The strengths and weaknesses of key players are analyzed.
  • This report provides a Bill of Material (BOM) analysis of quantum dot displays for TV, Notebook PC, and tablet size, and BOM of Cadmium-free quantum dot displays.
  • Market data in the report includes 2013 – 2015 history data and forecasts from 2016 to 2026.
  • The market forecast includes Unit, quantum dot component ASP and Revenue, with a detailed breakdown by Cadmium-type quantum dot and Cd-free quantum dot; a detailed breakdown by ten applications: TV, Public Signage, Monitor, NB PC, tablet/phablet PC, mobile phone, Digital Still Camera/camcorder, other app displays, lighting, and QLED display.
  • In the third edition, we added market forecast with detailed breakdown by form factors: film, tube, and other form factors.

Cima Touch—joint venture of Foxconn and Cima Nanotech for ITO replacement

September 3, 2015

I just came back from the trip of Touch Taiwan and IDMC (International Display Manufacturing Conference) 2015 conference.  Earlier this week, we blogged about LG Display keynote on flexible OLED display, and Konica Minolta keynote on flexible OLED lighting, and AUO quantum dot TV adopted 3M and Nanosys material.

Another hot trend at Touch Taiwan 2015 is the ITO-replacement material for touch panels. At Touch Taiwan, Cima Nanotech announced its new joint venture with Foxconn: Cima Touch. Both companies will sell SANTE® ProTouch™ modules through Cima Touch.

Last year, Cima Nanotech and Amdolla showed a 42” projected capacitive touch screen at SID 2014.

In the newly published “ITO-replacement: non ITO transparent conductor technologies and market forecast 2015 report”, 5th edition, Touch Display Research analyzes metal mesh, silver nanowire, conductive polymer, carbon nanotube, graphene and other transparent conductor materials. Touch Display Research forecasts that the ITO-replacement market will reach $10.9 Billion by 2022.

TPK, Cambrios and NISSHA Expand Joint Venture

October 4, 2013

On October 3rd, Cambrios, TPK and NISSHA signed the expansion of joint venture– TPK Film Solution.

Back in August, in our “Touch and Emerging Display” monthly report, we’ve reported that TPK will produce silver nanowire type film touch panel by end of this year.

The interesting thing of yesterday’s news is that NISSHA also joined it. NISSHA has been producing ITO film touch panel before.

ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) is currently the mainstream transparent conductor. However, due to its high cost, long process and fragility, non-ITO type transparent conductors are gaining momentum.

Over 180 companies and research institutes are working on ITO replacement in 2013. Sixteen companies and research institutes are working on silver nanowire. Metal mesh, carbon nanotube, conductive polymer and graphene are also popular ITO-replacement transparent conductors.

What is the market size and forecast for ITO replacement transparent conductors?  What’s the price of transparent conductive film? Which transparent conductor is suitable for which application? Which direction should you invest in non-ITO transparent conductors? A detailed analysis can be found in our “ITO replacement–Non-ITO Transparent Conductor Technologies, Supply Chain and Market Forecast Report.”
